Another Nice Day

The spring colors are starting to come along as evidenced by this photo by Nancy of her Breck's special selection of spring bulbs.  The tiny tulips, which close up in the evening are beautiful, popping up so early in the season.  Of course, with the temperature hitting 75 degrees today, no wonder!

A lot of little things were done today, including planting the first batch of potatoes (Norland Red), both yellow and white onion sets and six broccoli plants (keeping my fingers crossed).  I also moved the chives from the back of the garden over to the new herb area that will also include basil, parsley, coriander and cilantro (in due time).

The most difficult part of the day was keeping my eyes on the tomatoes, as it seemed I needed to water them almost every three hours or so.  Good thing I quickly learned to take off the plastic over the mini greenhouse, or I am sure I would have lost my tomatoes to the heat.  It was over 90 degrees under the covering.

I also transplanted my beefeater tomatoes started on March 15 into larger pots.  They almost doubled in size over the last few days.  I need to start some of my other crops pretty soon, including beans and cucumbers.

Tomorrow I hope to plant some rows of spinach and lots and lots of peas.  It is expected that we will continue getting some pretty good days right through early next week.  It sure is nice that my tomatoes are large enough already to take advantage of these really nice days.  I am still bringing them in every night, as I would expect some cold nights still coming along until the end of the month.
