Growth Spurt

Our weather has been quite good since Thursday, enabling our flowers and vegetables to double their efforts in growing tall and full.  Nancy spent the last four days planting about 100+ flower seedlings where ever she could find some open space.  We also moved about 50 johnny jumpups from the pool area to the wilderness area at the front corner of our property.  Everything, or almost everything seems to be taking well.

The vegetable garden is producing some very nice salad greens, particularly spinach, which is doing very well for the second year in a row.  The black seeded simpson lettuce has really taken off and has been the mainstay of our salads for supper.  We had our first pea pod and should get lots more in the next week or so, as there are just loads of pea flowers blooming.  Tomatoes continue to produce.  We had some all weekend as my sister was up from Delaware enjoying fresh tomatoes, the first of the season for her.

The early tomatoes that I had in pots since early March were put into the ground last Thursday and seem to be doing very well.  Earlier plants that I had protected with the wall of water are already producing tomatoes, a nice surprise.  The few tomatoes that were damaged by the last frost in mid May were cut back and are making a nice comeback.

All in all, I am very pleased with the progress we are making and look forward to some nice harvests coming up.
