Springtime but no gardening yet
A nice week of weather, a bit of rain and presto, almost all the snow has disappeared from the landscape. However, the enthusiasm for getting plants ready isn't there yet, as other, more important items have taken the forefront of my time and energy.
After a long, long indoor track season that was quite successful despite terrible training conditions, the latest undertaking is getting the in-law ready for our new tenants at the end of May. My daughter and her husband are moving in next door, as we move back to our abode to be closer to my 91 year old mother. The move has provided some intensity as we are undertaking the updating of the sunroom, kitchen and living room all on the first floor. After a number of discussions, it has been decided to get all new hardwood flooring, new kitchen cabinets and counter top and new appliances.
The sunroom flooring was first on the list and after two false starts, the job is just about completed (I still need to put back the baseboard trim and move the cable, internet and phone wiring. The floor, a 3 1/4 inch wide 3/4 inch red oak select went down quite well. It only took about 1 and a half days, after waiting the required 5 days as the wood acclimated to our home.
So, here are a couple views of the new floor in the sunroom.
Still to come is the kitchen, which is quite messy right now, as you can see. Tabitha took down all the cabinets and painted the walls, but there is still a lot more to do, including painting the ceiling, fixing the windows and walls that used to have a brick wall and no windows, putting in the oak floor and then putting in the cabinets. This is the corner where the sink, dishwasher, refrigerator and cabinets will all be going. The other cabinets and stove will be across the way, on the other wall.
The back wall with the two windows needs a lot of work to smooth out the sheetrock, while the trim around the windows also needs to be redone.
I am sure that May 30 will be here much too soon.
