Never a Dull Moment

Progress continues on getting the in-law apartment ready by the end of May, but there doesn't seem to be a day when something stands in the way.  Today was the epitome of what can go wrong.  We have a septic system and I have been diligent in having it pumped out every 12 to 18 months (depending on use).  I had it cleaned out after the big crowd came for the wedding last August, so I thought all was ok.  Well, not so.  Today, my 91 year old mother noticed there was something wrong with the toilet.  She suspected it might be outside.  Not me, I thought someone had put too much toilet paper in and it was clogged.  As my mom was doing laundry, I went food shopping.  About 2 hours later my mother again says there seems to be something wrong.  I go over to the new kitchen area and see lots and lots of water all over the floor.  Fortunately, Tabitha and Derek had come over to help move our bed upstairs, so they were able to wet vac the floor quickly and then used lots of old towels to dry up the floor as quickly as possible.  Meanwhile I go down to the basement and find water all over the place.  It took over 2 hours to get rid of the water in the pipe going to the septic tank (and it was not clean water).  I had some pvc irrigation pipe that was flexible enough to go into the pipe and push through the cement like clog that totally blocked the line.  Then it took even more time to clean up the floor, the shower where the water was coming out.  I still need to go back to the basement and clean up and wash the floor to get rid of the water than had backed up.

Meanwhile on the good side of the ledger, the counter top guy came and made a template of the counter that will be going in.  I was almost right on with my cabinets, off by 1/4 of an inch from one end to the other.  I was very happy.

I hope to get the living room hard wood flooring done in the next 3-4 days.  I need to do a little more cleaning and then down goes the floor.

The electrician comes on Wednesday to put in the lines for the stove and microwave oven and the overhead lights.  Then it's upstairs to finish the bathroom.
