Could Not Resist

There is just no way I could not add this photo to my blog.  You have to admit, he is a charming addition to the family.

As to the garden, it is coming along quite nicely.  We have been eating early tomatoes for a couple of weeks now (Siberian variety).  They are small, but very tasty.  Lettuce has been growing quite well and it is almost time for that to start bolting.  We also had a decent crop of spinach (not as good as last year) and cute radishes that were the size of marbles, but very tasty.  Broccoli is starting to form heads and peas have flowers.  Beans and corn are doing nicely, except a couple of corn plants are attracting rabbits.  I had similar problems with some lettuce, but used some netting to solve that problem.  I also hustled some huge fence posts that were being thrown out and put them around the currant, gooseberry and blueberry bushes and then hung some bird netting over the top to keep our friends at bay.

I built a second compost bin using some pallets the high school tossed and that bin is now the active one.  I am hoping the older bin will start producing some nice compost by the fall.

Items in the greenhouse continue to grow very quickly, with lettuce coming to an end, but cucumbers and tomatoes growing fast.  I also have a couple of pepper plants in there, figuring they will grow nicely with the warmer and wind free atmosphere.  I will post some pictures when I get some time, as lots of new weeds are coming in that I need to eliminate.
