Skidaway Island

Today, we drove down to Savannah to visit Forsyth Park in the center of town.  We like going here for two reasons....
1) Starbucks for Nancy
2) Parking right at the entrance to the park

Despite temperatures at 78º, the park was not very crowded.  But then, it was a working day, although there were a group of moms with their kids congegating around the small playground area.  Across the way, a larger playground was being constructed.  The moms looked like they may have been runners, as all of them had nice 3 wheel carriages that move quickly along the way when you run.

We then headed further south onto Skidaway Island.  We stopped at the Ranger Station to pay our day fee of $5.00 and it turns out that the Ranger was from Mansfield, MA, where her mother still lives.  In fact, her sister ran for the Mansfield team under Mike Atwood...

We toured the campsites, which were very nice, 87 of them, all pull throughs with electric, water and cable.  Some had sewers as well.  It was not populated very much, but my guess is that weekends are pretty popular.  It makes the Massachusetts state parks look cheap and uninterested in developing nicer camping sites.  The cost for a site with all those amenities is $28 for seniors and I think $32 for others.

We ate lunch at one of the picnic areas and then did one of the smaller nature trails.  This one was about 1 mile long, about the limit for Nancy with her ankle.

Here are some of the photos we took.
