Heatwave!

Back in 2009, I wrote about how it had rained and was cold basically from May until July.  Not so this year.  Today marks the 4th time, I believe, we have gone over the 90º mark this season.  Even back up in Mansfield, temps it is 85º this afternoon.

I water the lawn every morning for almost 3 hours (thank goodness for our well) and some of that watering takes care of the onions, broccoli, cabbage andI was able to get out today and cut the entire lawn, but the deer flies were relentless.  I told them to go back up north to New Hampshire and Maine, but they seem to enjoy what is offered here.  We do have a fly problem, probably due to the retention pond in the back yard, so I may have to resort to buying some netting for my head, as the weeds are starting to pop up quickly.

So, unlike with my relatives in Germany, where bugs don't seem to be as prevalent (Germans homes do not use screens), maybe that is why their gardens can be kept weed free, while we have to deal with bitting flies as we try to weed here....ha, ha. lettuce in the garden behind the waterfall.  Our lettuce in the salad bar is cooking and I have to water there twice a day.  Having gone through this down in Florida, I have learned what I need to do to keep things moving along.

In the meantime, the heat just keeps on coming.
