Easy does it!
Well, the weather finally got me. That and I guess I might have been overdoing it just a bit.
It is summer and it is warm out, not quite as bad as out west, but we have been getting temperatures in the low 90's for the last few days and that will continue for a few more days. However, it is the early morning and evening temperatures that have caught me by surprise. Right now, at 7:49 pm as I am writing this, it is 86ºF outside. This morning when I went out for my walk at 7:45 am, it was already 78º. Even at 5 am, when I used to go out, it was 76º.
I felt like I was back in Florida and not enjoying this very much. I usually count how many t-shirts I wear during the day when working in the garden, walking or working on some project. I 3 t-shirt day is usually the maximum for me. Now, I go through 3 t-shirts by noontime!
When I started my walking in May I was 164, a bit up from my usual 160. Two days ago I was 149. Just a bit too low, even for me. I am now back up to 152, my weight when I ran in college.
I have decided to make some changes in my routine, as I do want to survive and feel good about the things I do. So, here goes.
1. I am going to cut back on the number of miles I walk per week. I am not recovering very well, I think due to the heat, so I need to do less walking. I continue to walk each day, but once I start to feel tired, I am going to stop.
2. I will spend more time inside, as can be seen with the photo of the small bedroom being painted. The pervious color of the room was more of a rose, but we have both boy and girl grandkids, so we decided to paint the room the same color as the living room and kitchen.
3. I am spending less time in the garden, mainly just picking vegetables, keeping things watered and waiting for tomatoes to turn red. I did weed the Pond Garden, but that zapped me. The main garden is doing ok, some weeds in the lanes, but I can get them as the weather improves a bit next week. In the meantime, I continue to give out fruits (blackberries) and veggies to our neighbors.
4. Enjoy learning new ways to design and post my web pages. I have always enjoyed teaching myself how to use the computer, going all the way back to the first one I ever bought, a RadioShack
I learned basic and produced workout schedules based on different race performances. I then moved up to an Apple Computer and only left that platform for a short period of time, when I did FinishLynx Timing and had to move over to the PC platform when the support for the Mac version disappeared. So, I like spending time on the computer and I like trying to be creative with web pages. During the heat of the summer, I have a good excuse to stay inside and my hobby.
Tonight on my walk, I encountered two fairly large sized deer, as they came out of the woods, crossed a stone drive and dashed into the corn fields. They were no more than 20 feet away from me. I have seen other deer, fox, ducks, snakes, bugs, flies, turtles and even a crane and its baby. There are also lots of birds, rabbits and the other day I happened to pass by a groundhog, digging in a grass area right out in an open field.
We have plenty of wildlife around the homestead to be sure.
