A Dog's Life - An update on our dogs

Our Florida trip this year had some good events and some very sad happenings, as well.  Shorty, our 18 + year old mini dachshund went to doggy heaven in early March after struggling with his breathing and with a heart murmur.  His passing was very, very difficult for us, as Shorty has been part of our family for most of our married life.

He was a terrific pet, and more so a major part of our family.  Shorty was quite unique, being both a loving and caring pet, but also having his own mind, being quite stubborn and a fighter until his last few days.  After almost dying the first week Nancy brought him home from a local puppy mill in MA, he bounced back to have a full, long life. He was Ella's partner, as they kept each other company and loved being together on all of our trips.

Shorty can't be replaced, of course.  We did find a puppy, Maggie (for Magnolia), born in Bear, DE on Feb 7, 2022 that suited us and she certainly seems to enjoy our company as well.  She has quickly picked up the nickname of Maggie Mayhem for her antics and "teething" period she is going through.  She has doubled in size since we picked her up on April 2 and her enthusiasm and energy level is at a high pitch.

Our good news is that we no longer stay in our fifth wheel at the Road Runner Resort.  After six years there, living in the "tin can" was a bit too much for me, as I wanted more room and more things to do over the winter break.  We got very fortunate and found an older (1988) cottage on Walden Pond Drive in the 55+ community of Golden Ponds, about 6 miles from our former location.  Nancy can still visit with her friends while I have more room to grow veggies and fix things in the cottage.  I already put in two new toilets and a new vinyl planking floor in the living room, but there is still lots to do down the road.
